It was a hell of an horror experience for me when i woke up this morning and opened my blog to see if any new comment has come in , but here i see something which scared my soul deep inside. A red page with “A HORRIBLE WARNING RESTRICTING ME FROM VIEWING MY OWN WEBSITE” was up there right in front of me and i felt sinking with in. I had no clue what went wrong and where it happened. i proceeded to google and started searching for all the potential reasons to know what has happened, with all my coding knowledge i was sure that i will be able t repair it but i wasnt sure where to start from as i am not security expert. After browsing google for more than 5 hours i found the error and also got a head way to start the process and finally got it back up and running but what i went through was certainly something i never want to experience ever again.
Hence after this bad experience i decided to write a note about the same along with the resources which helped me get out of it.
The first thing i did was right away headed to check my Database to see if there was any malicious injection that happened in last few hours and surprisingly i found nothing which meant the hacker was tricking me and doing the act at the run time which made it more difficult for me to identify the root cause of the problem.
Google Webmaster Tools : The first and the foremost tool which helps you in identifying the problem. As google is the one along with Norton which rules the internet security just like FBI they keep a check on everything that happens on web to keep it safe for browsing.
Badwarebusters.org ; This is another tool which explains the possible cause of the problem or the attck that has taken place on your website. They have a forum which is pretty active and the members there are very helpful and supports you with out any fees. after sneaking in there i found many helpful resources to proceed and determine the root cause .
Securi.Net ; Securi.net came to my rescue and finally helped me resolve the error. When i ran there check on my domain name they specified the problem completely . They indicated the malicious code that was residing there on my default pages outside the main body and stopping the site to run and also were acting and unsafe elements. They are als a web security agency , for the bloggers who are not very adept with coding knowledge can always opt for there yearly subscriptions in which they keep an eye on your website as well as keep you updated with best possible ways to keep your domain safe, in need they also clean the code with all the errors that have been caused by these so called anti society hackers. There services and worth giving a shot.
After this episode i also informed my Hosting provider Host Gator about the same and guys responded well n time with the best support and helped me to remove the error.
TheAlliance runs a website called StaySafeOnline.org. This site offers information for parents, educators, home users, and small businesses.
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) operates a consumer information site called OnGuardOnline.gov that covers malware, phishing, online fraud, and other related topics.
BleepingComputer.com has a bit of a no-frills, techie feel, but it has an active community of volunteers in its forumsand it also offers helpful malware removal guides. This is a very important that i discovered today as most f the anti virus softwares are incapable of fighting with mal-wares but this sight has free tools to detect and fight the same on your host machine.
If you are pro coder and can help yourself then :
If you site is flagged as bad by Google, you can see more information about their findings by visiting the Google Diagnostics page, replacing www.example.com at the end of the URL with the URL of the site you’re interested in.
You can also use Google Webmaster Tools to learn more about what Google has detected on your site, to request an automated review of your site, to request notification if your site gets detected as a badware site in the future, and more.
iScanner is a free, open source tool that uses a somewhat limited set of signatures to try to find malware in a file or at a specific URL.
If you have a site that helps to defend free speech and human rights, CyberSpark.net will provide free monitoring of your website.
Hope this resource will help you go ahead and fight hacking for your domains. If I have missed out anything here then i would really appreciate if you could also suggest something.
